In the context of a discussion of transgender/transsexual people, the word "transition" refers to a complex, multifaceted process: the metamorphosis from living as a member of one gender, to living in another gender.

This often requires many careful and separate steps, each of which are undergone with various amounts of difficulty. This page is therefore split into several subpages, each of which has its own link. Note that not all trans-identified people follow through with every possible aspect of transition; there is no "standard path" along which everyone placidly trots!
